President Donald Trump met Pope Francis at the Vatican on Wednesday, 11 minutes after arriving in Rome.
After a friendly handshake and taking pictures, the meeting began. President Trump attended the Vatican with his wife Melania, his daughter Ivanka and his son-in-law Jared Kouchner.
Under the protocol adopted at the Vatican, the first American lady and the president's daughter wore black clothes and put a scarf on their heads.
The Vatican is the third leg of Trump's first overseas trip to Saudi Arabia, Israel and the Palestinian territories and will be completed in Brussels for a summit with NATO leaders and in Sicily, where he is attending the G7 summit.
